Why is cooling critical to magnetic resonance imaging?
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) requires a continuous flow of chilled water for the cryogenerator. Additionally, an efficient climate control system must allow for the independent control of temperature and humidity in the exam, technical, and control rooms.
Failure in the water-cooling system results in an increasing loss of helium gas in the magneto. Similarly, temperatures and humidity outside the recommended ranges may cause malfunction and damages in the electronic components. Undesirable consequences include schedule interruption and extra costs to replenish helium gas.
